Certification Program

NAI now offers six different categories of certification for interpretation professionals: Certified Heritage Interpreter (CHI), Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG), Certified Interpretive Host (CIH), Certified Interpretive Manager (CIM), Certified Interpretive Planner (CIP), and Certified Interpretive Trainer (CIT), Certified Interpretive Host (CIH).

National Workshop
An annual event in the U.S. attracting about 1,000 participants, that moves every year to one of NAI's ten geographic regions. Workshops usually occur over a five-day period during the first two weeks of November and are planned five years in advance. International Conference
An annual event held at sites around the world attracting up to 200 participants, held in the spring. Previous locations include San Juan Puerto Rico (2006), Vancouver Canada (2007), and Sokcho Korea (2008). For photos of previous conferences and information about this year's event, click below.

Region and Section Affiliations
Ten geographic regions and eleven subject-matter networks within NAI dedicated to providing networking opportunities.

Chapter Affiliations
We have local chapters in many parts of the country and on several university campuses that provide networking and training activities on a local scale. Chapters include Association of Missouri Interpreters, Missouri (AMI); New Orleans Area (BAYOU); Washington, D.C. Area (BELTWAY); State of Colorado, Centennial (CENT); Colorado State University (CSU); Crest to Coast, California (CTC); Great Valley, California (GVC0; Iowa State University (ISU); Puget Sound (PUGET); Southern Arizona (SAC); Stephen F. Association Store

Books and clothing items are available at discounted rates to members.

Publications
NAI produces magazines, books, periodicals, and newsletters. The association's magazines, Legacy and The Interpreter, each come out six times a year. The association publishes books through its imprint, InterpPress. The peer-reviewed Journal of Interpretation Research is issued twice a year. Members receive NAI Now, a monthly electronic newsletter, from the national office and quarterly newsletters from their regions and sections. Members also receive the annual membership directory in print or interactive CD-ROM format (beginning in June 2008, the membership directory will be on-line only).

A password-protected section of NAI's website available to members only. It includes job listings, an online forum, archived articles, and multi-media resources.

Legacy Trust Fund
An endowment to provide funding for the purchase of the National Office building, the scholarship program, and member services.

Interpretive Media Competition
The Interpretive Media Competition is sponsored by NAI and its Interpretive Media Section to promote excellence in the delivery of non-personal interpretive services. Winners are announced each year at the National Workshop and posted on the website.
