Plan Ahead with a Deferred Gift

Deferred gifts can be made in a variety of ways to suit the needs of you and your estate. If you would like to discuss another arrangement other than the ones listed here, please contact executive director Tim Merriman.

Bequests
Thoughtful estate planning through a living trust or a will may save your estate significant taxes. In addition, your preplanning will ensure that the people and organizations you care about are provided for once you are gone. If you wish to advise the organization of your gift, please click here and complete the donor commitment form.

Insurance Beneficiary
Bill RandallIf you have an insurance policy, you could make NAI the beneficiary of a portion or all of the proceeds. In 1998, long-time member Bill Randall did just that, providing a benefit of $100,000 that became the basis of a scholarship endowment as well as contributing to general operations funds. The only action required is to designate NAI as your beneficiary. If you wish to advise the organization of your gift, please click here and complete the donor commitment form.

Charitable Gift Annuity
Dick TaylorA Charitable Gift Annuity provides a source of income to NAI and the donor during his or her lifetime. Your donation of $50,000 or more can be invested, with a predetermined yield paid to the donor and any excess yield paid to NAI. At the donor’s death, the entire amount becomes available to NAI. In 2006, long-time member Dick Taylor chose a CGA because, at his age (then 76), it offered a rate of return hard to find anywhere else. Not only that, the return was guaranteed regardless of economic fluctuations and it offered a “tremendous tax benefit.” Dick passed on in 2007, but his gift will keep on giving for years to come. The details of establishing a CGA will vary according to the individual’s needs and the size of the gift, but generally include:
The rate of payment depends on several factors, but it must be at least 5 percent
You receive an immediate tax deduction at the time of the gift
Estate taxes are reduced
A portion of the income is tax-free

If this option seems right for you, please click here to indicate your interest on the donor commitment form.
