Individuals who are responsible for planning (experienced or not) – from regional master planning to site-specific exhibit planning; should have some understanding of interpretation

Individuals responsible for training people in the interpretive field whether in a university setting, for an agency or as a contractor

Experienced interpreters capable of developing and implementing personal programs and non-personal media

Managers or supervisors of sites with any sort of interpretation or education program

New hires, seasonals, docents/volunteers, individuals who will be delivering interpretive programs or having public contact at interpretive sites but with no previous training in interpretation
Click here for more information Certified Interpretive Host (CIH)
New hires, seasonals, docents/volunteers, maintenance workers, receptionists, law enforcement – people who have public contact but do not deliver presentations
Notes
• Once open-book exam is taken for one category, it need not be taken if an individual wants to be certified in other categories.
• Certification lasts four years; recertification requires 40 hours additional training over the 4-year period and a fee of $35.
• Open-book exam is taken from the following books (available from NAI as certification library: $120 + $12 shipping/set)
