This 32-hour course includes:
• history, definition, and principles of interpretation; presentation and communication skills
• creating programs that are purposeful, enjoyable, relevant, organized, and thematic
• incorporating tangible objects and intangible ideas into your programs
• course materials, coffee breaks with snacks daily
NAI certification requirements:
open-book exam; program outline; 10-minute presentation and full participation in all sessions.
Your instructor:
Wren Smith is a Certified Interpretive Trainer for NAI with over 25 years experience as an interpretive naturalist and trainer for parks, nature centers and retreats. Wren has conducted regional and national training sessions for NAI and other related organizations. Although Wren engagingly weaves together art, science, history and natural history to create memorable interpretive experiences, her real talent is helping others become more effective at communicating the facts and passion central to the places they love. The National Association for Interpretation awarded Wren with the Outstanding Interpreter for Region 3 in 2004 and the Outstanding Legacy Feature Article in 2006 for her article, Restorying the Wild.
The Workshop Setting:
All sessions will take place at Bernheim’s Education Center and begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.
Food: Participants may bring their own sack lunch or purchase food from the Visitor Center located a short walk from the Education Center. Light refreshments will be provided daily during the breaks.
Lodging: The closest lodging may be found in Shepherdsville approxmately 5 miles from Bernheim. For information about lodging and meals go to www.travelbullitt.org.
*We may have limited housing availble on a first come first serve bases for a minimum charge.
Class size is limited to 15 to ensure individual attention.
Cost:
Regular Fee -$353 for non NAI-members
(includes instructor fee $220, 1-year NAI Assoc Standard Membership $45, Certification fee $80
and course materials $8).
Other Options:
Option 1- Already a member of NAI? Cost is $308
Option 2 -Don’t want NAI membership? Cost is $365 (higher certification fee for non-members)
Option 3- Training without certification? Cost is $273 (includes NAI membership)
