Join Tim Merriman, NAI Executive Director, and Lisa Brochu, NAI Associate
Director, for a 5-day Certified Interpretive Trainers workshop
October 25-29, 2010, at the Hallmark Inn,
Newport, Oregon.
The Certified Interpretive Trainer (CIT) workshop is designed to improve your skills as a trainer using NAI's Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) curriculum. Once you take the class and pass the credential requirements for CIT, you can use NAI's curriculum and certify staff and volunteers at your own site or serve as a contractor to sites without a trainer on staff. This workshop is required for those who want to teach the CIG curriculum. It is also required for those who want to teach the Certified Interpretive Host curriculum, however an additional two-day training workshop is also required for CIG instructors to use the CIH materials.
During the 5-day CIT workshop, you'll receive the complete CIG curriculum, so there is no need to take the CIG workshop first. You can also complete the CIG credential at the workshop if desired. The first two and a half days of the workshop, we'll provide an annotated instructor's version of the CIG course. Then we move on to material that helps you become a better facilitator and evaluator. You will evaluate CIG students through watching videotaped presentations. We also provide a detailed orientation to the paperwork requirements for CIG instructors. On the last day, you'll present a 20-minute training segment that is videotaped.
Because this workshop is designed for those wanting to teach the CIG or CIH curricula, participants must be eligible for certification at the professional CIT level. Evidence of eligibility must be provided in the form of a transcript (not diploma) from a 4-year degree program related to interpretation or a letter from a supervisor indicating at least 4 years of work experience in the field or a personal self employment affidavit (PDF form can be downloaded from the website).
The workshop provides the opportunity to complete two of the requirements for the CIT credential. You will have the chance to work with others to complete the open book exam and you will also complete your videotaped presentation. The remaining requirements include an essay exam and two outlines of training sessions you have presented in your career (could be from a regional or national workshop, in-house training for your agency, teacher training, or a university or college class).
At the workshop
An informational email will be sent out approximately one month prior to the workshop, but to facilitate your travel plans, the general schedule includes classroom sessions running from 8:00-5:00 pm Monday through Thursday. On Friday, we will finish no later than 3:00 p.m. Please do not plan to leave early as participation in all workshop sessions is mandatory for this course.
Pricing, Lodging and Meals

Restaurants in a range of price options are plentiful in the vicinity of the office.

A $75 fee cancellations after September 24, 2010. A $50 processing fee will be applied if you transfer at any time to another workshop. Prices are subject to change without notice.
