The National Association for Interpretation (NAI) will host the third annual international conference on the subject of heritage interpretation, May 11-15, 2008 in Sokcho, Korea. The conference will bring together 150 to 200 delegates from 30 to 40 nations in an effort to create opportunities for professional development for attendees and establish a network for professional associations and individuals involved in heritage interpretation around the globe.
Note to attendees:
NAI will accept U.S. checks and U.S. and Korean cash only for on-site payment.

This capacity-building network will allow the exchange of ideas and facilitate working partnerships between nations with established interpretive organizations and developing nations that need assistance with the promotion and instigation of interpretive facilities to enhance tourism experiences, benefit local economies, and sustain sensitive cultural and natural heritage resources.

Tomb, Korea

Join NAI in beautiful Sokcho, Korea. Located in the Gangwon province along the coast of the East Sea in northeast South Korea, Sokcho is famous as the main entry point to Soerak-san National Park and includes the area knows as 'Outer-Seorak.'

The nearby Yeongrangho lake is renowned for its beauty, especially the reflection of Seorak-san and its Ulsan-bawi in the water. There are a number of well-preserved Buddhist temples in the area around Sokcho. The main building of the Sinheungsa temple (Geukrakbojeon) is a popular tourist destination (originally built in the 15th century).

Nearby Mt. Seoraksan is a natural work of art, the most beautiful portion of Baekdudaegan. Mt. Seoraksan is adorned with thodendrons and wild flowers in spring, thick and green foliage in summer, autumn tints in fall, and dazzling snow in winter.

Seorak and its vicinity was given the unique biological reserve zone of rare life's habitat in Korea in 1982 by UNESCO. The park is divided by the highest peak in Daecheongbong into Eastern area called Outer-Seorak, and Western called Inner-Seorak.

Sokcho has held a number of large conferences, including the 1999 Gangwon International Tourism Expo. In addition to Seorak-san, the area includes a number of beaches, spas, lakes and streams for fishing, and many lodging and leisure facilities to take care of all the visitors.
