Frequently Asked Questions: NAI Member Area
How is the NAI Member Area different from the rest of the Web site?
The NAI Member Area is a password protected, exclusive section only for current NAI members. There are more specialized member benefits inside the member area, including access to previous Legacy articles, the Interpretunities jobs postings, the NAI Member Forum for member interaction, images you can use for your computer wallpaper, and much more. We hope that the NAI Member Area will become a valuable asset to your membership. Click here to visit the NAI Member Area.

How do I get my username and password to the member area?
When you become a member, or renew your membership, you will receive login information with your membership packet and receipt. If your membership is current, but you haven't seen your login information, please email Tara Tanner or Jamie King, NAI Membership Department, here.

Why don't I get Interpretunities every two weeks by e-mail anymore?
With the problems associated with spam and email, we felt that posting the jobs within the newly created NAI Member Area would allow more of our members to find the job listings. Members no longer need to request to receive the postings, or wait 2 weeks to get the newest listings. Interpretunities is now available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with jobs being posted as they become available.

Can I view or update my membership or contact data online in the NAI Member Area?
As of this time, the NAI Member Area is not setup to allow changes to member information online. Currently, login information is more general, allowing users to easily get into the new area. We are continually adding new features to the NAI Member Area, and are considering many new interactive options to enhance your NAI Membership.

Why offer wallpapers (computer background images) in the NAI Member Area?
Many members of NAI are photographers, whose work often rivals the best photographers in the business. We felt that a great way to showcase the immense talent of our members, and add yet another benefit to the NAI Member Area, would be through wallpaper images (also called Desktop images). We've "seeded" the wallpaper section with a number of images taken by staff, and through the generosity of a few of our members, to get things started.

What's the purpose of the NAI Member Forum?
The NAI Member Forum allows members to interact and learn from one another, regardless of geographic location. There was a consensus that between workshops and other events members did not have many opportunities to interact. With the forum, members are able to discuss interpretive and other topics with other members. The wealth of experience and knowledge of the NAI membership is just a click away.

Are my username and password the same for the forum as they are for the rest of the member area?
As of this time, the login information for the forum and the NAI Member Area are different. The forum is built with separate security features, which allows users to have a unique, more personal login. Since users in the forum are unique, and the profiles are more personal, they require a higher level of security. The security for the member area is currently much lower, to make it easier for members to get into. As NAI Members become more accustomed to the idea of separate, secure areas, introducing stronger security overall to the member area will become easier.

What topics are available for discussion on the forum?
The NAI Member Forum was built to allow any discussion at any time. It is an open forum for ideas, and we encourage members to start new topics and new avenues of discussion. Current discussions are varied, and include topics on learning Powerpoint for presentations, consultants and clients, research help, certification questions, NIW 2006 roommate referrals, and much more.

Why are there different categories on the forums?
The forum is separated by more general discussion categories to better organize the various thread ideas that members post. Categories include the Member to Member area, Interpreter's Corner, Membership, Certifications, Events, and more. By separating the discussions into their own categories, we hope to keep the more general ideas on track. A thread about the CIG course might get lost in the Membership category, for example.

How do I start a new discussion topic (thread) on the forum? How do I reply to someone else's post?
Starting a new topic is quick and easy! Just go to the category that your thread would best fit under, and click on "New Topic". The form to add your new topic will come up, and it's as easy as creating a new email message to someone. You add a subject line, add the content of your posting, and then hit "Submit", or, if you'd like to look at it before you post it, hit "Preview". That's it!

Posting a reply works in the same way. Visit the thread that you want to post a reply to and hit "Post Reply". You get the same window as you do when adding a new message, just follow the same procedures as above.

Are there other features included with posting the message?
There are quite a few features available when you are posting a message. You can add smileys (often called Emoticons), links to websites and images, font choices, and you can even add a voting poll to your posting!
