INTERPPRESS |
How
can I get published through NAI’s InterpPress?
Send a query letter to NAI’s national office. If NAI decides to pursue
your project, you will be asked to send sample chapters
and an outline that will be sent to a review panel. The review panel will make
a recommendation for publication, revision, or rejection. If recommended for
publication, staff will make a final determination of the viability of the manuscript
based on a market and financial analysis. Authors with successful manuscripts
will receive a publishing contract that specifies terms of agreement.
What sorts of manuscripts will InterpPress accept?
Manuscripts must relate to the profession of interpretation or professional development
of those in the field. Collections of personal essays, memoirs, and poetry will
generally not be accepted unless they originate from recognized historical figures
in the field
of interpretation.
How long has InterpPress been publishing books and how often does it
issue new releases?
InterpPress began operations in 2002 with the publication of the book Personal
Interpretation and the Certified Interpretive Guide workbook. Currently, one or two titles are being published each year.
Will InterpPress produce or distribute videos?
Video production and distribution is a new program area for InterpPress that
we are currently exploring. If you are interested in talking more about the potential
for video production and distribution, please contact Lisa Brochu, associate
director, at 888-900-8283.
Do staff members receive any compensation for books sold through NAI?
Staff members are allowed to publish books through InterpPress in accordance
with board-approved policy. When staff members write books on their own time
and put the manuscripts through the same publishing review process as anybody
else, they are allowed to collect royalties according to their publishing contract
like any other author. Staff members are not allowed to have input on approval
of their manuscripts for publication. Currently, staff members that have published
books make donations to the organization each year that equal or exceed royalty
payments received. When staff members write books on NAI time as part of their
job duties, they
receive no additional compensation. |
