CRITERIA FOR NAI LEADERS:
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

To be a true leader within NAI, a person should possess:

Knowledge of:
Self, including strengths and weaknesses
NAI and its history
Management of nonprofit, government, or private sector businesses
Policies and organizational practices of NAI
National and international trends in interpretation
Interpretation-related academic thought and publications

Skills in:
Public speaking, or a desire to learn such
Computer usage, especially word processing and Internet communications
People management and organization

Abilities to:
Enroll others in a collaborative vision of the future
Problem solve
Be an effective listener
Observe and recognize other’s accomplishments
Uphold professional principles
Practice selfless leadership principles and ethics
Manage one’s ego
Admit mistakes and strive to be humble
Challenge the status quo
Be creative
Be compassionate and attentive to others’ personal needs
