Update by the Executive Director
Tim Merriman, Executive
Director
Budget
and Cash Flow
We continue to run a cash surplus at the end of the first quarter which means
that our operating funds situation is good. Membership income is coming in
very good and certification income is exceeding expectations. Association store
sales are much better than expected.
Grants
We have been told the USEPA grants have been funded and transfers of those
funds through NPS and FWS should happen soon. We have about $162,000 in
the first phase of each of these grants. We will hear from a Bohemian Grant
request for $30,000 in the next few weeks to assist with planning a living
museum in Fort Collins. We also should have news on a Boettcher Foundation
Grant for $25,000 in the next few weeks for the building. Julie continues
to also raise cosponsorship funds for workshops and has found about $40,000
in tentative grants for the international workshop in Puerto Rico in 2006.
Legacy
Trust Fund
Julie continues to work closely with major donor propsects on major LTF gifts
while also writing grant proposals for appropriate projects. We have only $6,625
in contributions to date but expect the amount to grow substantially through
the year. For
more information on Legacy Trust Fund click here.
Networking
I recently conducted a full-day interpretive workshop with the Society of American
Archaeology in Salt Lake City. They are interested in our involvement in
more training in future events. I also provided a half-day of workshops
for Arizona State Parks at their annual Volunteer Recognition Day. We continue
to meet monthly in our training room with CEOs of regional nonprofit environmental
and cultural groups. This is building a variety of opportunities to collaborate
in the future. Bill Knight of NPCA has agreed to help us contact Mike Finley
of the Turner Foundation about our accreditation proposal.
