Update
by the Executive Director
Tim Merriman, Executive
Director
July 2007
Audit,
Budget and Cash Flow
We continue to await the registration
boost provided by the National Workshop registrations which will
occur in early August. The National Office portion of the audit
is complete and we await the draft audit document from Sample and
Bailey.
Grants
We continue to work with NPS with the Phase II grant with
USEPA on projects related to the nature center study with CSU.
InterpPress
Sales of existing books go well.
Investments
As per Board action in June, we will sell all stocks
purchased at request of regions or sections in early July. All
regions or sections with bank balances of $10,000 or more will
be paid one year CD interest rates on the amounts above $10,000.
This will yield interest income for seven regions and two sections
in the third quarter. Interest income is computed monthly.
Journal of Interpretation Research
The first issue for 2007 will
go out in early August, 2007.
Leases
Both leases downstairs at 230 Cherry St. have expired
on July 15. Both plan to renew but require procedural approval.
We raised the rent from $14 a square foot to $15 a square foot
for the new contract. This is the first raise in three years. We
hope to have the renewed leases in place by mid-August.
Museums of Malawi
We learned of the incredible work of
the Museums of Malawi at the International NAI meeting in Vancouver
this year. The articles have led to a growing number of donations
each month which we ship to Michael and Aaron in Malawi. Each dollar
buys a mosquito net for the bed of a child and could prevent the
child from getting malaria.
Parking Area
Our original contract with Mason Street Partners
called for them to build six parking spaces behind our building
for our use. They recently built the parking area but it is not
opened yet due to construction on a dumpster area on the end of
it. It should be available in August.
Staff Changes
Tim Merriman and Lisa Brochu have resigned effective
December 31, 2007. We have not hired on the Sales Manager position
and will not do so during this period of transition to new leadership.
Sam Smith, our part-time worker who took care of the building and
shipped packages the past three years has just left us after completing
a Master’s degree.
