STAFF REPORT

Associate Director
Lisa Brochu

June 2007

General Administrative
In May, both the board reorganization task force and the strategic plan task force met and made progress on their respective tasks. Staff meetings continue to be held every Monday at 10:00 a.m. regardless of whether executive staff are in the office that week. This meeting allows all staff members to communicate their priority projects and schedules for the week as well as discuss any issues or concerns.

Certification
May 3-4, the NAI office hosted a CIHost Trainers workshop. The following week, a CIP course was held in West Palm Beach, Florida at Pine Jog Environmental Education Center. The week of June 4, NAI staff (including Paul, Tim, and Lisa) held a CHI course in Fort Collins at the national office. This was immediately followed by a CIP class south of Denver at Castlewood Canyon State Park. This year will be a record year for certification courses from the national office. Current numbers involved in certification program are as follows (note - the number in parentheses in CIH column is number of trainers certified to teach this course):

Although only approximately 5300 individuals have applied for certification, approximately 8000 have taken the CIG and CIH training. Not everyone who takes the course is interested in certifying, but the impact of the training itself is significant.

Certification workshops have been scheduled through 2008.

Definitions Project
Links to the definitions project website are being placed on other organizational websites by the project participants. In addition, Russ has added a “spread the word” button which allows any other organization to link directly to the site from their website.

International
We have an itinerary for the 2008 ecotour and the 2009 ecotour prepared Kye Joong Cho has sent additional information regarding the international conference in Korea for 2008, so we should have the registration form ready for that event by August. We are still waiting for some details from Kye Joong related to off-site events.

Contracts & Speaking Engagements
We received a contract from World Wildlife Fund to hold a planning workshop (not a regular CIP) in Guaymas, Mexico. The request came from Diana Crespo (a CIT and former student at CSU). She has arranged this opportunity to create a capacity-building planning project for 15 Mexicans which will have us leading them through a planning process for an interpretive plan at Bahia Kino Biosphere Reserve (week of July 2).
