Update
by the Executive Director
Tim Merriman, Executive
Director
May 2007
Audit, Budget and Cash Flow
We will begin the annual audit procedures
in mid-May. Cash flow is very challenging at this time of year with
expenditures greatly exceeding incomes. We are now about $195,000
into the $225,000 line of credit, leaving very little to borrow to
cover needs in May and June. Registration for NAI National in Wichita
begins in mid-May and income from this will be helpful by July.
Grants
We will work on the second phase of the EPA/NPS grant this
year to make what was learned through Sara Melena’s study of
nature and environmental centers more accessible.
InterpPress_- Sales of existing books go well. Our two books for
2007 are not yet under contract.
Investments
Our Randall Scholarship investments are up about $19,000
or 19%, which is excellent. We will be harvesting the growth from
these after July 15 under our current investment policy.
IWH 2007
Some debts remain to be paid for this event but
it appears that gross revenue exceeded $20,000. This is much better
than last year and covers the staff time costs for the event.
Journal of Interpretation Research
We do not have our first manuscript
for editing yet but Carolyn Ward has indicated she has had many submissions
and should be able to turn out both issues this year on time.
Networking
In April I began an interpretive plan consult with Alabama
Historical Commission that will be completed by early June. Lisa
and I conducted the CIT in Tuscany, Italy, for 18 participants from
8 nations.
Staff Changes
We have advertised the new Sales Manager position
and have a dozen applicants. We are reviewing those and will interview
soon, hoping to hire by mid-June.
