Certification
I traveled to Indiana in late April to meet with Beth Barrie and Katie Bliss of the Eppley Institute (training partner of NPS) to continue the discussion we initiated when they attended the CIT class in Yosemite earlier this year. Eppley has designed and is ready to implement a new on-line training tool for interpreters, but needs assistance to provide “coaches” to those enrolled in the program. NAI CITs could perform that task once trained to do so. An opportunity exists for a three-way partnership between NPS, NAI, and Eppley that would benefit all three organizations, if NAI provides a coaching course to CITs that will enable them to be paid for their work as coaches by those who wish to use their services. The next step in the process is to meet with Dave Larsen of the Mather Training Center to further define the parameters of the partnership and roles of each organization involved. We plan to do that in August of 2008, then perhaps try a pilot coaching course in early 2009, with full implementation of the program in 2009.

International
The Korea conference was successful in every sense of the word, in spite of many challenges before and during the event. We ended up with around 165 participants from 20 countries, comparable to the previous two years. Photos from the event can be found at www.interpnet.com/ic. We will have final numbers ready for a report for the June board meeting, but initial review indicates that we broke even, or slightly better financially. We are taking what we learned from this conference and creating a conference manual for international events that will be available in the office to help provide continuity from year to year. We have begun planning for the 2009 event in Athens, Greece, and the call for papers is already available on the website.

Administrative
I prepared and shared with VPA and VPP a recommendation for a program audit that will function much as the financial audit, except that its purpose will be to have a committee review program activities for continuing cost/benefit effectiveness.

New Initiatives
I prepared an agenda for the first conference call of the Corporate Advisory Council that will take place May 27.
