STAFF REPORT

Update by the Executive Director
Tim Merriman, Executive Director

November 2007

Audit, Budget and Cash Flow
National Workshop attendance of 792 was roughly at the break even point for the event budget. We will not know the financial result until year-end but hope the event did break even or make a small surplus.
We filed our 990 report this past month by the Nov. 15 deadline and owed no Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT). NAI Reported $2,065,841 in revenue and $1,906,080 in expense with a surplus for 2006 of $159,761. It is posted on the Resources for Leaders portion of the NAI website.
The Annual Report was given out at the National Workshop in Wichita and is available online at the Resources for Leaders directory.

Business Plan 2007
Performance on objectives in the 2007 Business Plan remains uncertain until all results from the National Workshop are available at the end of this month. By the December report we will know more about the actual performance in all areas. Certification, InterpPress and Publications have exceeded income projections and other categories remain below their projected amounts. Some may yet make or exceed objectives by year-end.

Grants
We continue to work with NPS with the Phase II grant with USEPA on projects related to the nature center study with CSU. No other grants have been sought or are pending.

InterpPress
Sales of existing books go well with 118% of projections for the year achieved to date. The Association Store sales are at 52% of the annual objective and they rely on the National Workshop income for a substantial portion of sales.

Journal of Interpretation Research
The second issue for 2007 is in the final review stages of editing and goes to print on Dec. 21st. It should be in the mail by end of this year.

Leases
Both leases downstairs at 230 Cherry St. have been renewed into 2008. NPCA is up for renewal mid-summer and RMBO on January 15, 2009.

Sales
Sales are off in general for the year. We expect to hire on the Sales Manager position by December 2007 to start in 2008. We expect to improve sales dramatically in 2008.

Staff Changes
The new Sales Manager position is planned for a January 16 start date.

Training and Speaking
In October I spoke at international meetings at Aviemore, Scotland, and Yuntaishan National Geopark in Henan Province of China. Both will lead to greater participation at the NAI International Workshop in Korea in May of 2008.
