Phone Contacts
Phone calls were made to all section directors, resulting in five conversations
and the remainder messages left.
Certification
A CIP workshop was held in Alberta, Canada the last week of August.
The workshop was well-attended by 15 Canadians, one Australian, and
one American. There appears to be a definite desire on the part of
the Canadians to see a stronger NAI presence in Canada with additional
training opportunities discussed.
International
We have begun to receive IWH registrations. This workshop is on schedule
and currently includes over 75 speakers from 25 countries. The Chinese
Department of Construction (roughly equivalent to our Dept of Interior)
hopes to send a delegate or several delegates as well, after our recent
discussions with them in China.
At the request of members there, discussions have been initiated with
New Zealand’s Dept of Conservation to determine how NAI might
best interact with their desire to increase professionalism amongst
their interpretive staff.
Contracts & Speaking Engagements
No new contracts or speaking engagements have been confirmed in the
last month; however, as the first phase of the Rocky Mountain Raptor
Program project comes to a close in the first half of October, we’ve
been asked to continue serving as interpretive planners through the
second phase of the project.
NIW
A sincere thanks to all NAI leaders who have helped us weather the
storm (so to speak) surrounding Katrina’s damage to Mobile. Thanks
to the good efforts of the workshop committee and particularly Deb
Tewell on staff, we should be able to hold the workshop with little
disruption to previously planned activities. Updates continue to be
posted on the website and we appreciate leadership help in getting
the word out that things will be okay.
Respectfully submitted,
Lisa Brochu
