Administrative
Phone calls were made to section directors, resulting in 1 voice
contact and messages left for the rest. One section director returned
the call.
Certification
Tim, Paul and I taught a healthy-sized CHI class in Fort Collins
in late August. This is the first CHI class that has made in the
last three years (and is the first that we have been listed as
instructors during that time). We also taught a full CIT class
for Pennsylvania State Parks personnel. Their intent is to train
all PA State Park employees as CIGs or CIHs, similar to what is
being done in Texas.
I have sent out a survey to all certified individuals asking for
their input on the potential for revising the certification library
set used for the certification exam. Since we began the program,
several new texts have become available that could be considered
for inclusion.
Representatives from the Scenic Byways Resource Center traveled
to Fort Collins to meet with us regarding the potential for getting
CITs involved in Scenic Byways projects across the country and
for hosting CIP workshops for newly designated Byways.
International
The Galapagos ecotour still has some spots left, but those will
now be offered to people outside NAI to help fill the boat. Because
we did not fill all the NAI spots, only one trip leader will be
paid for by the tour.
UNESCO has expressed an interest in becoming a significant sponsor
for IWH 07. Julie is following up with them. Their interest stems
from discussions and contact we established during our May trip
to China.
We are currently preparing a budget and business plan for a potential
office in Beijing and should be ready to make a recommendation
to go ahead or hold off by the November board meeting.
We have drafted an MOU for Sunchon University in Korea for their
review and hope to finalize it on our site visit there in October,
while reviewing potential locations and finalizing negotiations
for IWH 2008.
We have received word that the Center for Environmental Education
in India may have funding available soon to support a CIT class
there that would enable Indian trainers to then train others as
CIGs in India. This has been talked about for over a year but has
been put on hold until funding became available. They are also
interested in a planning class at some point.
We met with a representative from the tourism bureau in Bhutan
while she was in Fort Collins. She is submitting a proposal to
her agency for holding both a CIP and a CIT class in Bhutan with
the intent of providing Bhutanese trainers access to the CIG and
CIH program in Bhutan.
The final numbers are in from IWH 06 in Puerto Rico and it appears
we came out a little over $5000 to the good.
Contracts & Speaking Engagements
The Mongolia project has been put on hold till next year at the
request of the Mongolian conference hosts.
Respectfully submitted,
