POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Have you ever taken a guided tour of a National Park with a park ranger? Or sent your kid to a zoo camp for the day? Or visited a historical site and watched a reenactment? Those passionate people are interpreters! Interpreters connect visitors to important natural, cultural, and historical resources at parks, nature centers, historical sites, aquariums, zoos, and anywhere that people come to learn about places. NAI defines interpretation as “a purposeful approach to communication that facilitates meaningful, relevant, and inclusive experiences that deepen understanding, broaden perspectives, and inspire engagement with the world around us.”
 
NAI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership association that brings interpreters together through networking, online and in-person events, and professional development. We are growing and continue to add new certification courses, programs, products, and other workshops to our member benefits. We are looking for a dynamic, experienced, and fun Marketing and Outreach Manager to help us with brand awareness, professional visibility, and increased membership support. 

The Marketing and Outreach Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing strategic marketing campaigns to increase awareness of interpretation as a profession, increase and retain membership, and attract new partnerships. This individual will provide customer service within membership and special membership community groups.
 
The Marketing and Outreach Manager reports directly to the Executive Director, but works collaboratively with all staff team members. This position does not have any full-time direct reports, but does have oversight of volunteers, student workers/interns at times.  

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Plan, collaborate, and execute overall marketing strategy
  • Write, edit, and execute compelling member content for weekly emails
  • Oversee social media accounts and website to engage existing members, and attract new members, and establish positive public relations and brand awareness
  • Manage routine communication and customer service related to membership and member services through email and phone communication
  • Research trends and lead market research efforts in new marketing opportunities and brainstorming ideas
  • Develop recommendations for member/certification retention with existing membership
  • Advise on pricing structure and design of membership dues, benefits, and services
  • Manage NAI Store including product selection, design, fulfillment, promotion and inventory management
  • Coordinate financials with accounting department including billing, invoices, purchase orders, contracts, and other related financial matters
  • Supervise volunteers, student workers or interns assigned to the Membership area
  • Assist NAI communities (geographic regions, special-interest sections, and chapters) with membership services
     

The successful candidate will have the following experience:

  • Five to seven years experience in creating effective marketing campaigns and content for digital platforms—bonus points for a portfolio!  
  • Creative and innovative thinking
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with customer relation management or membership data management (iMIS is a huge bonus!)       
  • Familiarity with the latest trends, technologies, and methodologies in graphic design and web design 
  • Deep understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts and incorporation
  • Analytical skills to forecast and identify trends and challenges
  • Good research and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or business preferred, or related experience
  • Experience in non-profit membership or marketing is preferred, 
  • Supervisor experience with interns/temporary employees a plus

Salary & Benefits

Pay range in Fort Collins/ Denver Metropolitan area:
$54,000–$62,000 (exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience)

Location

The Marketing and Outreach Manager will be based primarily in NAI’s office in Fort Collins, Colorado, an hour north of the Denver metro area. A relocation stipend of up to $3,000 is available for the right candidate.
