Meet the Instructors

Paul Caputo joined NAI’s staff as art and publications director in February 2002 after earning a master of fine arts in visual communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. He currently serves as NAI's deputy director. His responsibilities include laying out and editing NAI’s publications and web sites, as well as moderating NAI's social media outlets. He has earned Certified Interpretive Trainer, Certified Interpretive Host Trainer, and Certified Interpretive Host credentials from NAI.

Paul is the co-author of Interpretation By Design: Graphic Design Basics for Heritage Interpreters, and The Story Behind the Nickname, a compilation of articles about minor league baseball logos. A native of the Philadelphia area and son of academics—a philosophy professor and an art teacher—Paul earned a bachelor’s degree in French with a minor in journalism from the University of Richmond in 1995.

K. Angel Horne is the PR, Media & Marketing Coordinator with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin. Angel migrated to the Wildflower Center just in time for the spring color explosion in 2016. She stays busy managing media relations, public information, social media, and marketing. Akin to tweeting IRL, she develops ephemeral interpretive signage for the gardens and natural areas. On a deep-breathing day, she enjoys slowing down a bit to write something a little longer than 280 characters for Wildflower magazine. In 2019 she was named “Best in Social Media” at UT Austin’s inaugural Excellence in Communications Awards.

Before putting down roots at the Center, Angel served as an ecological educator and Certified Interpretive Guide in Galveston where she also developed a podcasting/broadcasting program for schools and empowered teachers to bring science communications to the classroom. She has managed marketing for a social dance studio, worked as a freelance writer and editor, and aided local businesses and organizations in creating marketing strategies and materials. Angel has contributed to two major website overhauls and created content for several blogs.

Angel is a passionate naturalist with a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of the Incarnate Word and many, many hours of science and arts studies. If she’s not firing off plant puns on the Center’s Instagram account, she’s probably dancing, diving, or chasing her (really fast) pup at the park.
