Virtual Process Of Interpretive Planning, February 2023

VIRTUAL Process of Interpretive Planning Workshop

REGISTRATION IS SOLD OUT

A way of thinking leading to effective interpretive opportunities.

Workshop dates: February 27 - March 7, 2023 (weekdays)
Instructor: Dave Bucy

This virtual, multi-day workshop builds upon your experience and knowledge of interpretation to create an understanding of a basic, comprehensive, interpretive planning process. It's a great way to train to become an interpretive planner and to help you along the pathway of attaining certification as a Certified Interpretive Planner.

During this course, participants will learn key essentials in interpretive planning including topics such as identifying and profiling target audiences, developing a theme hierarchy, choosing media and evaluating impact. Throughout the course, participants will take part in practicums designed to put new content into practice, utilizing our host site to develop key aspects of an interpretive plan.

Please note that though this workshop is not required for participants to apply for a Certified Interpretive Planner certification, participating in the course will meet one of the requirements for submittal. Interested participants must apply separately for the CIP professional certification.

Schedule and What to Expect

This course will be a virtual offering, using Zoom as the platform. Students will be mailed instructor materials beforehand so please ensure your preferred mailing address is correct on your registration. The class schedule will be as follows:

Each day class will meet each weekday for 5 hours from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm MST (11 am - 4 pm EST). Note that students will work through lunch (if applicable).

Though we will be meeting online, this course will be using the Historic Halfway Homestead in Colorado as our planning site. The Historic Halfway Homestead is the Town of Windsor’s first locally designated historical site. It comprises two acres of land and multiple historic structures including the oldest structure in Windsor and a 1907 farmhouse. The site is slated for construction in 2023 to transform it into a community amenity that will provide space for both programmed and self-guided experiences related to Windsor’s agricultural past.
