This training will provide the attendee with CE credits towards NAI recertification. In-person attendees will earn 9 CEs while virtual participants will earn 4 CEs.

Start ‘Going Dialogic' by Starting Where You Are 

Dialogic interpretation and audience centered experiences (ACE) are engaging, interactive, and the way that the industry is going.  But for existing staff as well as new interpreters, the idea of giving the audience the opportunity to participate in a substantive way can be a nerve-wracking wild card, an exciting way to create together, or a little bit of both.  In this half day workshop, participants will first learn to identify their own strongest foundation from which to start bringing in dialogic technique.  Next, we will identify first steps appropriate to those foundations and skill levels including questioning strategies and navigating the arc of dialogue. Finally, students will take a piece of existing interpretation and work together to take concrete steps to put dialogic elements into their work in ways that leave them confident, empowered and inspired to keep going.  Every student will leave with a plan of action to take home.  This class is for front line interpreters and the leaders who support them.

Facilitator Bio: Kristin was a shy kid who grew up to be a passionate interpreter, so she knows what it’s like to take both gentle first steps and brave bold leaps into exciting new forms of interpretation.  She has been a front-line interpreter, an international tour guide, and an interpretive manager for both local historic sites and tour itineraries spanning all seven continents.  She is the owner of Stage Naked, an interpretive training and planning company focusing on in-person interpretation, dialogic work, and keeping audiences engaged with sensitive stories.  She is a Certified Interpretive Trainer and NAI Mentor & Learning Guide for the Intermediate Methods in Interpretation course offered by NAI and Eppley Institute. She is a training advisor for the International Association of Tour Directors and Guides.  She has taught naturalists and historians, astronomers and elephant handlers, docents, and tour guides.  While earning her MA in Performance Anthropology she discovered interpretation and once there, she never looked back.

Covid Information

The Maritime Aquarium does not require masks for its staff, guests, or volunteers. However, the Aquarium is a mask-supportive environment as we know its the best way to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and other viruses.

Workshop Cancellation Policy

Refunds will be issued (minus a $10 processing fee) if notice of cancellation is received on or before March 20, 2023. All refunds will be processed after the event date. Cancellation requests need to be submitted to NAIRegion1@gmail.com.
