Certified Interpretive Host Train-the-Trainers Workshop
February 13-16, 2018 or February 14-15, 2018
National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City, OK
Instructor: Emily Jacobs
Are you looking for training that combines nonformal interpretation skills with customer service? Do you want to train/certify staff and others on behalf of NAI? If so, this course is for you! This course has two different tracks for attendance and certification. For individuals who are not current Certified Interpretive Trainers (CIT) with NAI, a four-day course will be held February 13-16. In this session, you will learn how NAI teaches interpretation, what is expected for Certified Interpretive Host (CIH) certification and will complete two requirements for becoming a CIT. If you already are a CIT, are fully sanctioned as a CIG instructor, and want to teach the CIH as well, come for only two of the days, February 14-15. Once you take the class, you can use NAI's curriculum and certify staff and volunteers at your own site or serve as a contractor to sites without a trainer on staff.
Lodging
There are several lodging options near the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. They range in price from $49/night - $137/night. If traveling on a budget consider the Sleep Inn & Suites. It offers a reasonable room rate of $64/night for a king bed and $72/night for 2 double beds. It is also just 3 miles from the Museum.
Transportation
The largest airport is the Will Rogers World Airport, which is about thirty minutes away from the training site. Once registrations have been received, participants can also contact each other to arrange carpools, room sharing, etc.
Costs
Cost for the workshop varies depending on the 2 day or 4 day option. Participants for the four-day course who are not current CITs will pay $525 member/ $600 non-member. Current CITs with NAI who have taken the CIG Train-the-Trainer course will pay $225. Registration fee includes workshop materials, 2-4 days of instruction, certification fee (for four day attendees) and breaks. Meals and lodging are not included.
