CIG Train-the-Trainers Course
March 6-10, 2017
Bryce Canyon National Park
Bryce, UT 84764
Instructor: Fran McReynolds and Andre Copeland
The CIG Train-the-Trainers (formerly CIT) workshop is designed to improve your skills as a trainer using NAI's Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) curriculum. Once you take the class and pass the credential requirements for CIT, you can use NAI's curriculum and certify staff and volunteers at your own site or serve as a contractor to sites without a trainer on staff. This workshop is required for those who want to teach the CIG curriculum.
Participants to this course must have previously taken the CIG course and become certified or have the CHI certification. If you do not have these certifications, but would still like to be considered based on your experience, please contact Emily Jacobs, NAI Certification and Training Program Manager at email@example.com.
During the first two days of the workshop, we'll provide an annotated instructor's version of the CIG course. Then we move on to material that helps you become a better facilitator and evaluator. You will evaluate CIG students through watching videotaped presentations. We also provide a detailed orientation to the paperwork requirements for CIG instructors. On the last day, you'll present a 20-minute training segment that is videotaped.
Because this workshop is designed for those wanting to teach the CIG curricula, participants must be eligible for certification at the professional CIT level. Evidence of eligibility must be provided in the form of a transcript (not diploma) from a four-year degree program related to interpretation or a letter from a supervisor indicating at least four years of work experience in the field or a personal self employment affidavit (PDF form can be downloaded from here).
The training will take place at Bryce Canyon Visitor Center. Though you are welcome to stay anywhere in Bryce, our hosts have created a room block for us at Ruby’s Inn. Rooms are $58.00/night plus 12.3% room tax and can be booked directly by clicking here or by calling the lodge and asking to book into the “NAI Training/Larry Davis” block. All lodging must be obtained on your own but two weeks prior to the course we will be sending out information to all participants, if you would then like to carpool, share a room, etc. Additionally our hosts may also be able to arrange a shuttle from the inn to the VC each day upon request.
Each day mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks will be provided. All other meals are on your own but we will take an hour break to give you adequate time to get lunch each day.
The two closest major airports are Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City also has a commuter flight to Cedar City, which is the closest regional airport. Additionally, the St. George Shuttle serves both Las Vegas and Salt Lake City, which stops in Cedar City. Cedar City is approximately 90-miles from Bryce. Regardless, please note class may run until 4:30p on Friday, March 10th so please do not book a flight that requires you to leave earlier than that.
Registration and More Information:
The workshop provides the opportunity to complete two of the requirements for the CIT credential. You will have the chance to work with others to complete the open book exam and you will also complete your DVD presentation. The remaining requirements include an essay exam and two outlines of training sessions you have presented in your career (could be from a regional or national workshop, in-house training for your agency, teacher training, or a university or college class).
