Process of Interpretive Planning Workshop

A way of thinking leading to effective interpretive opportunities.

September 16-20, 2019
Cox Arboretum MetroPark
6733 N. Springboro Pike, Dayton, OH, 45449
Instructor: Dave Bucy

This 5-day workshop builds upon your experience and knowledge of interpretation to create an understanding of a basic, comprehensive, interpretive planning process. It's a great way to train to become an interpretive planner and to help you along the pathway of attaining certification as a CIP.

During this course, participants will learn key essentials in interpretive planning including topics such as identifying and profiling target audiences, developing a theme hierarchy, choosing media and evaluating impact. Throughout the course, participants will take part in practicums designed to put new content into practice, utilizing our host site to develop key aspects of an interpretive plan.

Please note that though this workshop is not required for participants to apply for a Certified Interpretive Planner certification, participating in the course will meet one of the requirements for submittal.

Lodging is on your own, but there are several close to the training site including the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Dayton, Courtyard by Marriott Dayton South/Mall, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham & Extended Stay America Dayton – South.

Each day mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks will be provided.  All other meals are on your own. There are numerous restaurants both near the training site and within close driving distance.

The closest airport is Dayton International Airport which is about 25 minutes from the training site. You may also choose to fly to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) about an hour from the arboretum. Once registrations have been received, participants can also contact each other to arrange carpools, room sharing, etc.
