Last Day to Register: May 20, 2021

Are you looking for training that combines non-formal interpretation skills with customer service? Do you want to train/certify staff and others on behalf of NAI? If so, this course is for you! This course has two different tracks for attendance and certification. For individuals who are not current Certified Interpretive Trainers (CIT) with NAI, a virtual course of six half-days will be held June 3, 4, 7, 10, 11 & 14. In this session, you will learn how NAI teaches interpretation, what is expected for Certified Interpretive Host (CIH) certification and will complete two requirements for becoming a CIT. If you already are a CIT, are fully sanctioned as a CIG instructor, and want to teach the CIH as well, attend four half-days, June 4, 7, 10-11. Once you take the class, you can use NAI's curriculum and certify staff and volunteers at your own site or serve as a contractor to sites without a trainer on staff.

Schedule and what to expect

Course will be a virtual offering, using Zoom as the platform. Students will be mailed instructor materials beforehand and the class schedule will be as follows:

For the full course (not a current CIT), day 1 (June 3) will be an introduction to how NAI teaches interpretation and a bit of a longer day running for about six hours including a break for lunch. The rest of the days cover the CIH curriculum, policies and procedures and presentations for the CIT. Class will start at the following times each day:
June 3 & June 14: 8a Pacific/11a Eastern to 2:30p Pacific/5:30p Eastern
June 4, 7, 10-11: 9a Pacific/12p Eastern to 1:30p Pacific/4:30p Eastern

For individuals who have a current CIT, and are sanctioned to teach the CIG (CIGT), you’ll attend days 2-5 (June 4, 7, 10-11) to learn the CIH curriculum and policies and procedures. Each day we’ll meet for about four hours.

Costs

Cost for the workshop varies depending on the 6-day or 4-day registration option.  Participants for the six-day course who are not current CITs will pay $550 Member/$625 nonmember. Current CITs with NAI who have taken the CIG Train the Trainer course will pay $250. Registration fee includes workshop materials, 4-6 days of instruction, & certification fee (for non-current CITs).
