NAI 2024

St. Augustine, Florida — December 3–6

Deadline: May 15

Interpreters are the keepers, tellers, and facilitators of stories for our natural and cultural resources. As such, interpreters hold a tremendous responsibility to understand the stories that are told and to richly represent all people, all backgrounds, and all perspectives. We encourage you to submit a proposal! Our conference slogan, “Navigating changing tides” is easily incorporated to just about anything! Environmental education, conservation, rising use of artificial intelligence and other advanced technology, accessibility challenges, storytelling, etc. We are accepting applications for in-person presenters as well as online-only presentations for the virtual option.

Your time, thoughts, and ideas bring immeasurable value to this conference, which will explore how interpreters navigate the ebbs and flows of changing tides! All submissions must be entered no later than May 15, 2024. Due to the high interest in presenting, unfortunately not all submissions will be selected. Selected presenters will be notified early June.

Submissions will be reviewed and evaluated by a committee of peers and NAI staff based on the following criteria, in addition to aligning with NAI’s organizational values:

  • Top three key takeaways/actionable outcomes
  • Broad application across various interpretive disciplines
  • Relevance to the field and why it matters now
  • Innovation in interpretive principles
  • Inclusion of cultural perspectives and diversity of presenters
  • Presenter expertise, perspective, and experience

Other items for consideration:

When interpreters represent a diverse range of experiences, individually and collectively we are better able to understand and meet the needs and perspectives of all audiences.

Presenters and panels should include varying perspectives and voices. All in-person session presenters and co-presenters must register for the conference. While it is not possible to waive registration or provide other financial support for presenters, session proposals may include presenters who will “join” your session via a video recording to add perspective. This provides a way to integrate partners, collaborators, and community members to share valuable perspectives of those who are not able to attend the conference in person.

Again, thank you for your interest in submitting a proposal for the 2024 NAI National Conference! We look forward to your thoughtful presentation ideas.
