Online Courses for Interpreters Learning Center

Project Overview

NAI has contracted with WBT Systems to acquire the Learning Management System (LMS) TopClass, in order to provide interpretation professionals with 1) a more seamless pathway to professional certification and 2) a more flexible and engaging learning experience. To deliver on the latter, NAI is seeking experienced trainers, instructional designers, and content developers to create asynchronous online training courses for our LMS, titled the Interpreters Learning Center, which will be made available for free or sold online. NAI’s priority areas for content include those listed below, but proposals submitted with justification for topics outside the ones listed below are encouraged.

  • About Interpretation (ex. What is Heritage Interpretation?)
  • Justice, Equity, Diversity, Accessibility, and Inclusion
  • Interpretive Media, Design, and Writing
  • Digital Interpretation and Social Media
  • Refresher content for Certified Interpretive Guides (ex. Theme Development)
  • Refresher content for Certified Interpretive Hosts (ex. Customer Service)

Learning Management System Overview

TopClass is an LMS designed to support learning pathways and certification programs. This online platform is capable of supporting asynchronous learning experiences in a variety of modalities to meet needs of learners, all while integrating with NAI’s existing database. This allows for just-in-time, on-the-go learning along with automatic record management, such as the tracking of continuing education hours.

Selection Criteria and Considerations

NAI recognizes and honors diversity in all its dimensions. No one will be excluded from consideration for this project based on what makes them a unique individual. Proposals will be evaluated based on the completeness of the response, the extent to which the proposal fulfills NAI’s stated requirements as set out in the RFP, as well as the developer’s proposed hours and relevant experience.

Staff may request to conduct interviews as part of the selection process. If a course is selected for development, the developer will have eight weeks to create the course and all related materials. NAI staff will be available to answer questions during this time. Once submitted, NAI will review the course. If the course does not meet the expectations of the proposal, NAI will reach out about making updates to the course. Time spent updating a course that did not meet expectations would not be compensated. In transferring a course to the LMS, NAI may need or choose to make modifications to the materials submitted.
