About this Course
Creating effective interpretation begins with interpretive planning. Interpretive plans lay the foundation for the entire experience visitors have at a site. This course will help you develop a comprehensive understanding of the interpretive planning process, so that you can create more integrated interpretive plans that support both orientation and interpretation.
During this course, you will learn about the basic principles of communication and how to apply them when designing visitor experiences. You will discover how to identify key audiences, develop a theme hierarchy, and choose appropriate interpretive media. Throughout the course, you will take part in activities designed to put new skills into practice and will gain practical experience working on a team by collaborating to create one element of an interpretive plan for the host site. Please note: should you choose to apply for the Certified Interpretive Planner (CIP) professional certification, products created during this course will not fulfill any of the requirements of the CIP certification.
