Diversity, Equity and Inclusion In Park Settings

Stories and personal narratives have tremendous power to create change. Research and counter-narratives inform us that in the US the dominant narrative around the outdoors has historically left out the stories and roles of people from communities of color, creating outdoor spaces that do not fully represent them. Justice and equity, as well as simple demographics, tell us this needs to change.

Yonit Yogev completed her Master's in Environmental Studies at The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA in 2017. She now works seasonally at Mount Rainier National Park, is a Certified Interpretive Guide and has an abiding interest in justice and equity in outdoor spaces and in society.
